After acceptance to the teacher preparation program at the College of Education, elementary education students study the history of schooling, how children learn, how to teach the subject areas and how to manage a classroom effectively.
Students spend the first semester of the senior year at a school site where teaching methods are combined with field experiences.
They end with a semester of student teaching. During this semester, practice and theory come together as the student assumes responsibility fora classroom under the guidance of the college and the participating school.
If you are considering a career in teaching, contact an advisor in the college's Office of Admissions, Advising & Student Services as soon as possible for help in selecting appropriate coursework.
