Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education, B.A.E.

University of Arizona students wishing to become secondary education teachers declare a major in a subject area (for instance, history) rather than in secondary education. Most undergraduate teaching majors also require a teaching minor. The University General Catalog lists the teaching majors and minors available.

Through the College of Education, future teachers receive professional training in the history of schooling, how children learn, how to teach and how to manage a classroom effectively. They take part in a variety of field experiences in Southern Arizona schools, and finally, complete a semester of student teaching. During this semester, practice and theory come together as the student assumes responsibility for a classroom under the guidance of the college and the participating school.

If you are considering a career in teaching, contact an advisor in the College's Office of Admissions, Advising & Student Services as soon as possible for help on selecting appropriate coursework.
