On-line Program

The Department of Disability and Psychoeducational Studies at the University of Arizona supports an on-line graduate concentration to prepare teachers of children who are deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH). Individuals can enter a master’s program (MA degree) in Special Education and obtain certification in Education of DHH, or if they already have teaching certification and a master’s degree in a related field, they can elect to complete courses to receive state certification in Education of DHH. Currently, students from across Arizona as well as from Florida, Ohio, Tennessee, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming participate in this on-line program.

We follow the application deadlines for the department. Applications for Summer or Fall are due by February 15 and applications for Spring are due by September 1. In most situations student should begin the program during the Summer I term. Exceptions may be made for students with previously completed coursework in the area of DHH.

Program Philosophy and the Future of the Field

The aim of the teacher preparation program in DHH is to prepare highly qualified teachers who can work with children with varying degrees of hearing loss as well as across multiple educational placements. The program does not advocate a single type of placement for all children with hearing loss. ... Please read more about the program philosophy.
