Writing A Thank You Letter to Your Scholarship Donor

College of Education scholarships are supported by generous donors who care about our students and education. These donors appreciate interaction with current scholarship recipients. With that in mind, we ask that you write a thank you letter to the donor who made your scholarship possible. Failure to do so may limit your consideration for a future award.

You will not need to mail this letter to your donor. Please turn it into the College of Education Scholarship Office in Room 227 G and we will forward it to the appropriate donors. If you have lost your award letter and do not know to whom you address the letter, please contact the Scholarship Office at 520-621-2345 or rsmilem@email.arizona.edu

Please construct a thoughtful, professional letter with your signature on the bottom.

Tips in helping you write your thank-you letter

Refer to the scholarship by its name as shown in your award letter.
Tell the donor about yourself:
  • Where you are from
  • Year of study (junior, graduate, etc.)
  • Major
  • Why you chose the U of A
  • Accomplishments
  • Organizational involvement
  • Professional affiliations
  • Goals
  • Future plans
  • How the scholarship has helped you (Do not mention the amount of your scholarship award.)

Please proof your letter and perform a spell check! Make sure your letter is well organized and grammatically correct.  You are not only representing yourself, but the College of Education.

Example of salutation should be:

August 15, 2008

Dear Mr. John Doe:

The closing of the letter should include your signature and return address (mailing and e-mail) so the donor can write you if s/he chooses.

The College of Education Scholarship office WILL NOT forward letters that are poorly written, fail to include a signature, or contain the wrong scholarship name. In these cases, we may ask you to rewrite your letter. If you have any other questions while writing your thank you letter, please contact the Scholarship Office at 520-621-2345 or
