Graduate students enrolled in programs in the College of Education are eligible to receive travel funds to participate in professional conferences during fiscal year 2008-09 (July 1, 2008-June 30, 2009).
GSTA application forms are available online. Applications and accompanying materials must be submitted to Jo Ann Hurley, Chair, Awards and Recognition Committee, (Education 203, jhurley@email.arizona.edu, or FAX 621-9271) no later than 5 p.m., Monday, December 8, 2008 or 5 p.m., Monday, April 13, 2009.
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION TRAVEL AWARDS
These awards are available to full-time or part-time graduate students (those enrolled in Masters, Ed.S., Ed.D. or Ph.D. programs in the College of Education) who wish to participate in professional conferences. A maximum of $250 per student per year will be available. Participation includes
- Paper presentation at an international, national, or regional conference (highest priority)
- Organizer or Discussant of a session at an international, national, or regional conference
- Other (e.g., chairing a session)
- Attendance at a national or regional conference required on the basis of elected or appointed office in that association
JACQUELINE ANNE MORRIS MEMORIAL FOUNDATION TRAVEL AWARD
These awards are available to doctoral students (those enrolled full time in Ed.D. or Ph.D. programs in the College of Education) who are presenting an empirically based research study in the area of social policy research involving children, youth, and/or families at a national or international professional association meeting. Funds may be used for conference registration fees, transportation, lodging, or per diem expenses. Up to five awards in the amount of $400 each are available during 2008-09. Recipients must provide the Jacqueline Anne Morris Memorial Foundation with a summary of his or her empirical research presentation.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
GSTA application forms are available online. An abstract or a copy of information submitted to the sponsoring association will serve to describe your participation. For the Morris awards, a 300-500 word abstract is required. Confirmation of your participation is also required. Applications and accompanying materials must be submitted to Jo Ann Hurley, Chair, Awards and Recognition Committee, Office of the Dean, Education 203, no later than 5 p.m., Monday, December 8, 2008 or 5 p.m., Monday, April 13, 2009.
AWARD CLAIMS PROCEDURES
In the event that an applicant is successful in obtaining a GSTA, the following procedures must be observed:
Complete a TRAVEL ORDER AND ADVANCE FORM (available from your Department Office).
- Request assistance from Department personnel to ensure that the form is completed correctly. Attach a copy of your award letter and documentation of your participation (letter of invitation or a conference program). The Department office will submit paperwork for approval.
- Within 15 days after returning from the conference, fill out a TRAVEL EXPENSE VOUCHER (available from the Department office). The Department office will submit forms for approval.
- A reimbursement check in the amount of the GSTA will be sent to the claimant in care of the Department office.
